Welcome!

Hey friends, family, colleagues, and strangers.

My name is William Fife. I am currently a PhD candidate in aerospace engineering at Texas A&M University. More importantly — I am a dad and husband.

I’ve wanted to start this project for a while now. The basic premise is threefold: Sometimes I feel isolated in the kind of work I do because it is so “in the weeds.” I want to share it with people, and maybe by proxy those also in my discipline will feel their work is better known. Secondly, I started interviewing some smart people for their historical perspective in my field and they’ve agreed to let me share these conversations. Lastly—especially on less career-facing topics—I want to write more. To write is to think.

I want this to provide real value — so I won’t post willy nilly. This isn’t a ploy to quit my day job, in fact I want this to enhance my working life.

How this works

Every new publication is sent to your email inbox. My hope is that you don’t let it become part of the “mark all as read” bucket, and that it brings you value.

You can always go to the website to see any past publications. For an ad-free reading experience, get the Substack app.

Thanks again for your support :)
